About Giclee Prints

Marcia Perry - - Marcia Perry Art

Marcia Perry has chosen of Giclée (ge-clay) or the Iris print to reproduce her original fine art with a quality compatible to her original air-brush medium. Via the Giclée process, she has found that her color and detail essential to her subject matter are the truest likeness to her original paintings.

As a fine art air-brush artist, Perry has the ability to control and ensure the integrity of her imagery. The Giclee technology presents a natural progression in the development of her work. Giclée is a four-color, digitized print process involving four million droplets of ink sprayed per second at 14 micron size to paper surfaces of thicknesses up to 140 Ibs.

This coverage is part of what makes the technology so uniquely effective. Through what is called "stochastic screening," Giclée uses minuscule, random dots to create higher image detail, which allows greater ink densities to improve tonal range and contrast.

The Giclée print process begins by scanning the original artwork into a computer. The best results are created by scanning the actual artwork, as opposed to a reproduction, though photo transparencies, positives and negatives can also be scanned. Once in the computer, all aspects of the image can be manipulated to achieve the truest result.

Because the images are sprayed onto the paper, they become part of its integral texture, rather than stopping at the surface as in traditional printing processes. The resulting quality and integrity is very similar to Marcia Perry's original airbrush paintings.

The prints are protected by a specific varnish which adds Ultra Violet (UV) protection and surface stability. Most inks are water soluble; the prints should be treated in the same manner as an original watercolor. Glass, especially UV glass, and moderate lighting conditions such as those found in the home will extend the life of the Giclée print.

Master printers, Talon Graphics use the best inks available to produce these beautiful Giclée images.
